Arcadia. Septimus Hodge and Thomasina Coverly. Drawn together by sexy mathematics and waltzing. Knowing things instinctively and realising things too late and not having calculators. This mix starts from Thomasina's point of view; somewhat fittingly, Septimus finishes what she began.

Aaaaand of course there is no art so I'm just going to shove this picture in front of your eyeballs again:

I have returned from another joyous jaunt to our fair capital! I met up with the lovely Kat AKA [info]solitary_zero and we frolicked merrily in Forbidden Planet and bought filmic postcards until it was time fore THE BEST THING EVER IN MY LIFE.
ARCADIA )
Then, on Tuesday we did the As You Like It matinee at the Globe! We had really good seats, smack bang in the middle of the stage in the ground floor seating blocks. ALSO I SAW JACK LASKEY BEING DELICIOUS WITH HIS SEXY NEXT OF HAIR AND A BABY BLUE SHIRT IN EAT BEFORE THE PERFORMANCE. It was erotic. Anyway, my improved position allowed me to pick up on a few things that hadn't been visible from our seats last Saturday, most notably Orlando's comedy speechlessness and Oliver's big, goofy, falling-in-love grin. OH JAMIE PARKER ♥

WHILE WE'RE ABOUT IT:

YEAH.

The girl and I ended up seeing The 39 Steps in the evening, which is one of those shows that I always meant to see but never quite got round to, so consider that ticked off the list. It was great fun, and the cast of four were fantastic. And the lead was John Hopkins, AKA John of York (!), who was very sexy in The Country Wife with Toby and very sexy in this with his dark wavy hair and handcuffs and so on.

So, yeah. ARCADIAAAAAAAAAA.

How are you? ♥

HEY YOU GUYS I HAD A REALLY GREAT FEW DAYS.

I got into London around lunchtime on what nobody is calling SHAKESPEARE SATURDAY, having watched the first three episodes of True Blood on the train, and met those charming Canadians [info]lonelyfajita and [info]cowcreamer for a spot of nourishment. Then, onwards to the National, for the obligatory postcard purchases (TOM HARDY AND HAYLEY ATWELL AND DAVID TENNANT!) and All's Well That Ends Well.
SHAKESPEARE SATURDAY: Part The First )

Then we wandered down the South Bank to THE FUCKING GLOBE, EXCUSE ME WHILE I HYPERVENTILATE. After I had pillaged the gift shop (this is my new favourite thing) we dutifully queued up for returns, and Jakk and Darcie managed to nab a pair of standing tickets, woop woop! I was then united with the ever-wonderful [info]_faeriequeen and [info]curlybeach, plus the newly-wonderful (at least in my experience - I'm sure they are long-time wonderful people!) [info]gem_pinkeh and [info]aquirkofmatter, we procured cushions, and then it was time for As You Like It, starring JAMIE PARKER AND HIS FOREARMS, FUCK YEAH.
SHAKESPEARE SATURDAY: Part The Second )
I had a few days in Kent with the girl, doing relaxing things like watching S2 of 30 Rock and wandering round Sunny Tunny and eating cake. I also saw Man On Wire, which was actually fucking magical. We also watched Valkyrie for Jamie Parker, who was all lovely and intense and ginger all over the place, bless his socks.

AND THEN IT WAS MONDAY EVENING, and time for Harry Lloyd in Ghosts!
NECKPORN ALERT )
Our frolics thus concluded, Hannah and I crashed at Gabriella's abode and proceeded to be ridiculous until the wee small hours. It's all Rupert Grint's fault. Aaaand then yesterday Hannah and I faffed around Londonia until it was time to catch our trains, playing charades with a gray-haired Lee Pace lookalike on the Fourth Plinth and becoming genuine celebrities in the process.

How are you? ♥

Since I am sadly separated from my laptop, and thus unable to do any of the mix-y, upload-y stuff I had planned for the end of the year, and since after tomorrow I might not have access to LJ for a while (WOE), I'm flinging this at you now. Basically, since I fail at aesthetically pleasing picspams, it is one big random clusterfuck of a linkspam, because that is how I roll. GOOD TIMES.

I'm back! And I think I have an internet problem, because I missed LJ more than is probably healthy. But yay! for lovely lovely York.

So, my madre drove me up on Wednesday to deposit some stuff at New House, and I actually love it. I didn't have clothes or anything to unpack, so we went to Pizza Express for lunch (goats cheese! Love it) before she toodled off. I didn't have anything to unpack, so I spent a few hours sticking stuff on my walls. It looks badass, so I shall try and get photos up in a few days. Then, Cindy and I went exploring our new patch of turf, and I found 2 Buffy video boxsets that I needed for £2.50 each in a charity shop! Back of the net! And we have a fit fruit shop, and a Sainsburys! And the park at the back. I heart New House. And then we had wine and watched Cry Baby. Good stuff.

The Penelopiad, or, Meh )

Friday was spent sleeping in, and then job-hunting. It went pretty well, got lots of application forms and places to drop my CV. I think I'm going to have to head back to York on Tuesday or Wednesday, which is both nice and a pain. Holy indecision, Batman! Then, Atonement!

In which Sophie talks about the book and SPOILERS and the wonder that is James McAvoy )

Train back, today. I love long train journeys by myself. I decided to read Cat's Eye, to remind myself that Margaret Atwood is awesome, even if she can't adapt her own work into plays. Fucking love that book. It's scarily accurate, and I love stuff about memory and the past and how fucked up people make each other.

I bought David Thewlis' novel! I'm going to start reading it tonight! Listen to this radio interview! He does impressions of Gary Oldman! He is awesome!

Wow, this feels slightly... awkward. It's been a while.

Okay, as dealt with in previous posts, I have ISSUES about the Australian actor Philip Quast. And his voice. And his hands. Yesterday, something veryveryvery exciting happened. Emma and I got tickets to see him perform as the guest soloist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican.

This is the programme:
Vaughan Williams Toward the Unknown Region
Vaughan Williams Symphony No 6 in E minor
Dominic Muldowney Tsunami (world premiere)
Ives General William Booth Enters Into Heaven
Holst Hymn of Jesus

As if The Man With The Hands wasn't enough to melt me, VAUGHAN WILLIAMS? AND HOLST? Not only that... Toward the Unknown Region is a choral working of a fucking WALT WHITMAN poem! Whitman! The sexiest poet ever! I think God loves me at the moment.

True, the concert isn't until May 2008, but it's still worth being excited about.

BREAKING NEWS: Samuel West, Dervla Kirwan and TOBY STEPHENS are going to be doing Harold Pinter's Betrayal at the Donmar Warehouse this summer. Tickets aren't on general release until 16th April, but Emma's parents are Friends Of The Donmar!!!! We're getting them today!!!!! Ach. So much joy.

Also, it's something of a Cambridge Spies reunion (if you haven't seen it, see it ASAP). Sam and Toby, obviously, but Dervla Kirwan is with Rupert Penry-Jones. Tom Hollander must feel a wee bit left out...

Okay, so yesterday might possibly have been one of the greatest days of my life. This is rather sad really, because yesterday I went to London and saw two musicals.

Les Miserables: They're French and revolutionary and stuff )

Then, after a quick break for sustenance, it was off to the Adelphi for Evita.

Evita: Real men do the tango )

After much deliberation, we decided not to hit the stage door because a) nobody else was lurking there and b) we would actually look like whores. So, armed only with a bottle of Blossom Hill White Zinfandel, we headed back to the hotel to make our own fun.

After many shenanigans with a corkscrew (thank you, receptionist!), wine was consumed and our own fun was duly made. This was done mainly through the medium of photography, aided by homemade signs. Some choice excerpts:
"Jon from S Club 7 cries angels' tears"
"The REAL Javert fondles his microphone"
"I'd get it on with Juan Peron"
"Real men are NOT Belgium"
This was actually a tipsy misprint by Emma, who then sheepishly had to add a tiny 'from'...

The night also promted some gems of quotes...
Me: *to the television* Are you turned on?
Emma: Who, me?

Emma: My paedophile face just looks like my normal face!

Emma: *wistfully* Maybe I imagined the skipping like I imagined the parade...
Her reasoning behind the lack of skipping in the production of Les Mis

Naturally, all the excitement led me to make some irrational merchandise purchases. I am now the proud owner of two pin badges I will never ever wear.

Yesterday I saw a play called Mad Forest, and it completely blew me away. It was about the Romanian Revolution of 1989, its aftermath, and the effects on two families.

Cut for gushing )

Anyway, I came out feeling amazingly ignorant about.. everything, so I did some very reliable 'research' on Wikipedia. If anyone's interested, here's the link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanian_revolution

Then we went to Ask, num num. One of these days I'll get some pictures up, because the place has to be seen to be believed. This was followed by another evening trip to Borders. I love that shop more than words. Anyway, my loan took another hit as I purchased:
1x Tristan & Isolde, DVD
1x Maragarita And The Master, Mikhail Bulgakov, Novel
1x The Map Of Love, Ahdaf Soueif, Novel

I really do have issues. Anyway, I started the Bulgakov, did the first chapter. It's completely amazing, but I started feeling really really guilty about not having finished Portrait of A Lady, so I manfully set it aside.

So, having returned home, we got stuck into Tristan & Isolde. I wasn't realy expecting great things, but I ended up enjoying it. Mainly because of Rufus Sewell. James Franco isn't the best actor, and his accent wasn't great, and the posters I'd seen had led me to belive that his hair would be better than it was. Anyway, Sophia Myles was fine, and the scenery was fucking breathtaking. *is wistful for Connemara*

Anyway, we paused the film at about 11.40, and pranced outside to see the lunar eclipse. I've never seen anything like that before. The moon was red. Anyway, we were all wrapped in blankets/ cloaks/ coats tied like Batman, and we were all feeling pretty pagan, so we basically danced around on the grass until it ws too cold to stay outside anymore.

Cut for paganism )

Apparently it was the best lunar eclipse for ten years.
