One Day We'll Fall On Everyone
I finally got around to watching Howl's Moving Castle and I am deliriously in love with pretty much everything about it. Gorgeous animation aside, the sheer inventiveness and detail of the world had me grinning uncontrollably throughout, and the characters were delightful. HOWWWWL, and his slime-producing self-loathing emo vanity, I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!

ANYWAY. The point is, there was a main character with my name, which hardly ever happens, and therefore is worthy of commemoration. In list format, no less! So:

AWESOME CHARACTERS WHO SHARE MY NAME
+ Sophie, Howl's Moving Castle
+ Sophie, Love Me If You Dare/Jeux d'Enfants
+ Sophie, The BFG, Roald Dahl
+ Sophie Dempsey, Welcome to Temptation Jennifer Crusie (SHUT UP, CRUSIE IS DELIGHTFUL, and also the sex is fantastic. You don't know my life!)
+ Sophie Amundsen, Sophie's World, Jostein Gaarder

Your turn! If you are a special snowflake with a rare name or whatever then I will expect detailed character analysis in lieu of volume. Or something.

How are you? ♥

What Emmas are there apart from the Jane Austen one who I never got along very well with? :(

I love Love Me If You Dare. The ending makes me cry so so much. :(

I would have thought Sophie was a more popular name. There has to be other films with characters named Sophie...

Agustina is a very, very uncommon name. I don't think I know a Spanish character called Agustina, even less in an English speaking film. And the same thing happens in history... I only know of Agustina de Aragón. She was bad ass though :D

Ooh, she seems interesting! That first engraving teminds me of a local legend, Molly Pitcher.

Also:

• Sophie, The Illusionist, Jessica Biel's character.
* Sophie, Anastasia not main maaaain character, but she's fun and fashionable.

Iiii... cannot think of any awesome fictionall Lauras at this point in time. NO, LAURA ROSLIN DOES NOT COUNT. I have ~~issues with her, whatever. But um, I get depressing time country songs with my name in it, so? (True story, Tony Head sang it to me once. It was glorious and I didn't quite know what to do with myself.)

Charlotte is...a bit doomed, from what I can think of off the top of my head.

Charlotte the spider from Charlotte's Web. Who dies. (But does some fairly nifty and clever stuff while still alive.)
Charlotte Lucas, Pride and Prejudice, who MARRIES THE KING OF THE MINGERS for financial security.

Except for CHARLOTTE SHAKESPEARE, who does appear like a deus ex machina to save my name credibility somewhat.

I love Charlotte's Web! When I was 7, I won a poetry competition with a poem composed for the hatching of the goslings! I WAS SO COOL.

Did you ever read any Jacqueline Wilson when you were younger? Because the heroine of The Lottie Project was mighty fierce.

*shows off Howl icon* Have you ever read the book by Dianna Wynne Jones? It is just as delightful as the film, if not more so.

Molly Weasley and Molly Ringwald. That's all I got.

Molly from Wives and Daughters? She is pretty lame, though, I wouldn't blame you for disowning her.

Sarah[info]bishwop on May 4th, 2009 10:40 am (UTC)
Sarah in Love Actually is cool.
And Sarah in Prison Break! At least she was in Seasons 1 and 2. I stopped watching in Season 3. But I actually caught a bit of it last night and she continued to be awesome.
It pains me that the only Disney character called Sarah was mean Aunt Sarah with the Siamese cats from Lady and the Tramp.

And the only other Sarah I can think of was married to Jack from Lost, which, HELLO, fail. At least she got out of that marriage though.
And Sarah in Brothers and Sisters is kind of annoying.
And the Jack in Jack and Sarah with Richard E. Grant. But she died.

I have just seen Australia and the main character in that was Sarah Ashley, and she got to make out lots with Hugh Jackman, so I guess that gets her some points.

...Okay I'm done now. I still wish there was someone a bit more awesome.

...
At times like these I wish I was called Eowyn.

I really liked Howl's Moving Castle, too!! And I understand that that might be an understatement for you...lol

I love the name Sophie, I always have! :) I was watching The Da Vinci Code last night and Audrey Tautou's name was Sophie, too.

My name is harder to come by I think (at least in stuff I've actually seen), but the most famous Alexis</i> would be Alexis Carrington from that old 80's soap opera Dynasty played by Joan Collins. People ask me if I'm named after her and I'm like, no, she was a conniving b****! LOL But I will say Misha Collins (Castiel from Supernatural - YUM) played an Alexis on 24. So do I get points?
